Important Information for a Day on Patong Beach

Published: 28th Sep 2008Author: Valerie Mellema

The best way to spend a day in Patong is on the beach. Patong Beach is divided into two different areas, including the northern part and southern part. The northern part of Patong is home to several resorts that offer golden sands and water that is shallow and clear. While the southern part also has a few resorts in its area, this area of Patong is best known for its location at the mouth of a river that allows several fishing boats to be anchored there and provides a bridge that leads to a little fisherman village.

As you make your way toward the beach, there are a number of different facilities which you can use. In fact, you can find almost everything that you need right on the beach, including sun beds and public restrooms. However, be prepared to pay for each of these, including the public restrooms. If you are staying at a resort, you may save by using some of their facilities that are included in your stay.

If you plan to get in the water, there are several different water sports which you can enjoy. Jet skiing and parasailing are two of the more popular water activities, although there are several which you can partake in, like wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, and windsurfing.

In addition to facilities and activities, there are also a number of venders available throughout Patong Beach for you to get something to eat. Without leaving your sunning area, you can get food, drinks, and snacks from the vendors as they pass by you. One of the most popular treats on the beach is ice cream. If you plan to leave the beach to grab a bite to eat, the road that spans the length of much of the beach will offer a number of restaurants and cafes for your lunch or dinner options.

Just as Patong Beach is separated into two parts, the seasons which Patong experiences different types of weather are also separated into two different parts. During November to April, this area of Phuket experiences waters that are very flat and calm due to the northeast monsoon. However, in May to October, when the southwest monsoon hits, there tend to be larger waves that make it unsafe to swim. Red flags will be out when those days occur.
